What is a resource plant?

Definition of resource plant. Plant of use in the past and future; with small effort of search, selection and refinement, these plants, other than the species that the current humanity is already cultivating, have clear purpose of usage through simple manufacture from the wild form.

Classification of resource plants

Classification based on degree of development
  • Original species, related species, economic resource of a cultivated plant (undeveloped, developing, and developed resource plant)
Classification based on usage
  • There are edible, fiber, medicinal, ornamental, oil, recreational, sugar, spice, dye, honey, and resin/tannin resources.

    Edible resources

    As representative edible resources, shepherd's purse has edible roots and leaves, and codonopsis lanceolata and platycodon glaucum have edible roots. These plants have been used in our diet since ancient times.

    Medicinal resources

    Plants used for healing purposes are called medicinal herbs because plants are mainly used for the medicine. Most plants parts, including roots, leaves, flowers, fruit, bark, bulbs, and sap are used.

    Ornamental resources

    Ornamental plants are native plants, including herbaceous plants, woody plants, and vines, and are those that can be divided into plants for flower beds, cuttings, potting, gardening and landscaping according to their purpose.
