Pollen Vector Resource

Insects as a pollen vector resource

  • In general, various crops such as apples, pears, watermelons, oriental melons, and strawberries are pollinated by pollen vectors such as butterflies and bees.
This process is crucial to yield great fruit.
  • Following to recent changes in the environment caused by the use of agrichemicals, these natural pollen vectors are gradually decreasing, and there should be systematic research and solutions to combat this.
  • In Korea, Kyongbuk has mass produced Megachilidae and supplied it to fruit farms to substitute for the disappearing pollen vectors.
