Humans have struggled against agricultural pests since the beginning of agriculture.
Although it is common to use pesticides to eliminate insect pests, an eco-friendly insect pest control method using living organisms, namely natural enemies, has recently been on the rise in terms of environmental preservation.
The methods for using natural enemies to control insect pests are largely divided into using parasitic natural enemies, predaceous natural enemies, and microorganisms.
For this, it is fundamentally important to study natural enemy resources.
In Korea, there were actual successful examples of insect pest control using natural enemies, including the elimination of a pest for apples (Eriosoma lanigerum)by importing and releasing Aphelinus mali in the 1930s, and the elimination of a mandarin pest (Ceroplastes rubens) on farms on Jeju Island by using Anicetus beneficus.
